One good turn deserves another, as they say. Back in 2015, just before the opening of Noi Thai Cuisine, owner Pat Chaiseeha took a day off at Makapuu Beach and got in trouble in the water. Had it not been for a Honolulu lifeguard, Chaiseeha would have drowned.
Since then he’s been trying to find a way to say thanks, and on Friday, Chaiseeha finally gets his chance with “Koni Au i ka Wai,” a food and whiskey pairing dinner that will raise funds for a new Jet Ski for the City and County of Honolulu’s Ocean Safety Division.
Bartender Michael Thananan is offering a lineup of whiskey and whiskey cocktails to accompany the cuisine of Noi executive chef Jongkul “Jumi” Sucodt. The menu includes Thai shrimp ceviche, grilled fish cake, green curry wagyu beef, holy basil mussels, grilled scallop and bacon, and crispy garlic chicken.
Whiskeys include Ardbeg, Lagavulin, Crown Royal, Bulleit and Suntory Whisky Toki.
The event runs 5 to 8 p.m. at the restaurant in the Royal Hawaiian Center (Building C, Level 3), 2301 Kalakaua Ave. Tickets are $85. Evening cocktail attire requested. Purchase tickets at eventbrite.com.
