Please describe your qualifications to represent the voters of your county.

My experience on both the Legislative and Executive branches of government has given me a deep understanding of the legislative process. I am a believer in open and accountable government and possess a strong work ethic. Working collaboratively with the community, I have produced major environmental and affordable housing legislation.

What will be your top priority if elected?

The Economy and Affordable Housing

As Hawaii faces the COVID-19 pandemic, what more should county government do to protect residents’ health?

County government should continue strict monitoring of recommended safeguards for residents, businesses, returning residents and visitors.

What should county government do to help residents who have been economically affected by the pandemic?

I am in favor of using Federal Cares Act monies to increase assistance, and create training programs and jobs for citizens affected by the impacts of COVID-19.

Should public worker furloughs, pay cuts or downsizing be used to help the county deal with lower tax revenues and higher expenses during the pandemic? Why or why not?

No. Because many families have one or both spouses employed as public workers, a furlough would result in reduced income and less spending on goods and services in the community.

What specific solutions do you propose to combat homelessness?

I would support funding to create “tiny homes” and job training. These homes could be constructed on County owned lands or built on privately owned lands via lease agreement. Another option is to work out a lease agreement with property owners who have buildings that could be used as temporary housing.

Do you support reforms to policing in Hawaii? If yes, please explain what reforms you support.

I am not in favor of any policing reforms at this time.

I have a calm, level headed leadership approach and the experience to lead during these unprecedented times.
