Stripsteak Waikiki recently launched its F(l)ight Club series of wine dinners pitting somm against somm.
During a four-course dinner prepared by chef Ben Jenkins, each course is paired with two wines, cocktails or another brew selected by a representative from Stripsteak and a challenger from another restaurant.
Guests are invited to get rowdy and vote for the best pairing after each course.
The inaugural event last month was a showdown between Stripsteak sommelier Billy Giampaolo and Hy’s Steak House sommelier Jonah Galase. Giampaolo won with a home-turf advantage.
We’ll see what happens next when Stripsteak bar manager Raymundo Delgado goes up against Sky Waikiki mixologist Jen Ackrill at 7 p.m. April 10. Cost of the dinner, presented in Stripsteak’s private dining room, is $125.
