In the summer of 2018, Wendy Stovall stood and stared into the heart of an inferno. Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano had been continuously erupting in one form or another since 1983. Kilauea eruption continues as alert level goes from warning to watch

The Kilauea eruption within the Halemaumau Crater has been downgraded from warning to watch alert level. Since the eruption began on Sept. 29, Hawaiian Volcano Observatory scientists have observed vigorous fountains spewing lava 164 to 197 feet high, producing significant amounts of pumice, Pele's hair and volcanic glass fragments. Lava-damaged restoration projects set to begin in Puna

Projects to restore infrastructure damaged in the 2018 Kilauea eruption in Lower Puna are moving ahead, with environmental assessments scheduled to start for work on Highway 137 and Pohoiki Road, including potential restoration of water to Isaac Hale Beach Park, according to Hawaii County officials.
