Hawai‘i Baptist Academy is excited to announce that its next open house takes place on Nov. 18 at the school’s elementary, middle school and high school campuses in Nu‘uanu.

School officials say these receptions offer great opportunities for Honolulu families to see the campus, talk to faculty and make informed decisions about whether HBA is the right fit for their keiki.

“Stepping foot on any of our three Honolulu campuses will open your eyes to the warmth of our people and community,” says George Honzaki, HBA admissions director.

“Every parent wants their child to be known and nurtured so they can be supported and loved as they reach for and attain their life goals,” he continues.

HBA is a wonderful learning community that provides this and more. For those who may not have previously explored all that HBA has to offer, this event provides the unique opportunity to embark on guided campus tours led by student ambassadors.”

He recommends parents come prepared with questions and a knowledge of their children’s interests — that way they’ll be able to focus on the programs and extracurricular activities their children are likely to be interested in.

“Since you know your child the best, think about their personal needs and interests,” he says. “How is your child unique? What are his or her needs? Asking questions that are centered around these prompts is the best way to find a school that will be the right match for your child.”

HBA has come a long way since its humble beginnings nearly 75 years ago, when a group of Christian missionaries taught 36 students. Today, the school serves more than 1,000 students from preschool through high school.

While HBA is recognized for its strong academics that prepare students for college, its core values of humility, curiosity, love and commitment set it apart from other schools.

Honzaki shares that families love the juxtaposition of HBA’s “small school” learning community with its “large school” opportunities.

“In addition to our core curriculum and more than 20 Advanced Placement classes, HBA offers a wide array of programs that allow students to explore and develop their passions, more than 40 sports teams and more than 55 clubs schoolwide,” he says.

“For nearly 75 years, HBA has brought faith and learning together to build a strong foundation for students who confidently serve communities around the world with their God-given talents, gifts and purpose,” says Honzaki. “Our teachers are the heart and soul of HBA, passionately fostering the values of humility, curiosity, love and commitment through academic lessons and through small groups.”
