Bubbies Mochi Ice Cream already boasts more than 25 flavors, but there’s always room for more.
Bubbies — born in Hawaii but distributed internationally — has launched a contest to choose a new flavor, to be developed for release in stores next year.
Suggest any flavor you think would make a good mochi ice cream, although you might want to go to bubbiesicecream.com to be sure you’re not suggesting something already in circulation.
Grand prize is a one-year supply of Bubbies and a launch party to mark the debut of the new flavor. Five finalists will collect a month’s worth of mochi ice cream. Just entering will get you a coupon for $2 to your next box of Bubbies.

Finalists will be posted on Sept. 7. The company will announce a winner on Sept. 24, but will take online votes for a public favorite through Sept. 21.
A RECIPE CONTEST JUST FOR KEIKI
Creative kid cooks — say that three times fast, and then if you know some, suggest that they enter the Localicious Recipe Contest at this year’s Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival.
Young chefs can enter in two age categories: grades 4 to 8 or 9 to 12. Three finalists in each category will compete in a cook-off Oct. 28 at “Keiki in the Kitchen” at the Hawai‘i Convention Center.
Top prize in each category is a two-night stay at the Aulani Disney Resort & Spa. The older winner also receives a $500 cash scholarship.
Judges will be chefs Nyesha Arrington of Native in Los Angeles, Shaymus Alwyn of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel and Rory Herrmann of L.A.’s Sprout Restaurant Group. The adults will be joined by judges Milo Fleming, 2017 “Top Chef Junior” finalist, and Sophia Stark, who won the Localicious contest in 2015.
Enter online at 808ne.ws/kidcontest; deadline is Sept. 21.
The food and wine festival takes place on three islands over several weeks in October. “Keiki in the Kitchen” is the festival’s family-focused event, hosted by Duff Goldman, star of the Food Network’s “Ace of Cakes.” It includes kids’ activities and cookie decorating with Goldman. Tickets are $5, available at hfwf.me.
