When I saw the video for McDonald’s “Frork” on the company’s YouTube channel, I couldn’t stop laughing. It was so ludicrous that I wanted it, and so did a couple of my co-workers. The “Uselessly Useful!” tool — as McDonald’s describes it — merges a fork and french fries, with the fries becoming the tines.
The Frork is a tongue-in-cheek promotion for three new craft sandwiches. It is used to scoop up the fillings that fall from the supposedly overstuffed sandwiches. It was available at only a handful of locations last weekend — given out with the new sandwiches. But you can still get one.
EBay has several up for bid starting at $5.50 and going up to $199 for a Frork with a bottle of Big Mac Special Sauce. Or you could win one by entering McDonald’s social media sweepstakes on Facebook or Twitter. Ten random winners will receive a Frork plus a few McDonald’s coupons. You must be 18 or older to play, and the deadline is 5 p.m. Monday. Click here for more information.

Take mom to tea on her special weekend
An afternoon of tea and sweets, plus a fashion show by Cinnamon Girl, will be part of The Moana Surfrider’s annual Mother’s Day celebration at the Veranda at the Beachhouse on Saturday.
The fete begins at noon, when moms and daughters (and those who love them) enjoy a selection of savory bites by chef Nolan West, including, for adults, a truffle egg salad tea sandwich, smoked salmon on rye with furikake cream cheese, pastrami on focaccia, duck prosciutto croissant and curry lobster roll; and for children, tea sandwiches of ham and cheddar cheese, peanut butter and jelly, egg salad and turkey with Swiss.
This will be followed by sweets by pastry chef Nanako Perez-Nava, such as a jasmine tea roll cake with strawberries, a guava macaron with a chocolate daisy, a chocolate ladybug tartlet and more.
Each adult will also receive a glass of Tattinger Champagne, while children enjoy a choice of tea, milk or juice.
The fashion show of apparel for moms and daughters will begin at 12:30 p.m.
Cost is $70 for adults, $35 for keiki up to age 12.
Call 921-4600. A credit card will be required.

Donations of food made easy
Your mail carrier probably left you a bright blue plastic bag last week — it’s meant as a no-fuss way for you to do your part to ease hunger in Hawaii.
Fill the bag with canned goods and leave it at your mailbox for pickup on Saturday, the date of the 25th Annual National Association of Letter Carriers’ Food Drive.
Last year’s drive collected 526,000 pounds of food statewide for the Hawaii Foodbank.
To volunteer to help with the collection or for other information, call 954-7869 or click here.
