Pedestrian dies after being struck by car in Pearl City

A man who was in critical condition this morning has died at a hospital after he was struck by a vehicle while walking outside of a marked crosswalk in Pearl City.

According to Honolulu police, the man was walking through the eastbound traffic lanes of Kamehameha Highway.

Police reported a 61-year-old male motorist was traveling eastbound on Kamehameha Highway when he crashed into a man who has yet to be identified. The motorist left the scene and then reported the collision shortly after.

Earlier today, Honolulu Emergency Medical Services reported they found the man lying on the roadway with “multiple life-threatening injuries,” at the 700-block of Kamehameha Highway at around 3:35 a.m.

Police said neither speed, drugs nor alcohol appeared to be contributing factors in the collision at this time.

Any witnesses are asked to contact the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division at (808) 723-3413.

The investigation is ongoing.
