More than 2,000 lanterns bearing the names of the dead are floated down the Ala Wai Canal during the second annual Honolulu Toro Nagashi (Floating Lantern) Ceremony. Outrigger canoes towed rafts of lanterns to sea in the colorful ceremony.

One new model, to be unveiled later this month, is the 810 Maxima, equipped with a synthesized woman’s voice that reminds drivers to “Please turn off your lights.”
