A truckload of bags is a mail sorter’s nightmare, but it’s a common sight in downtown Honolulu near the post office. Each year before Christmas the post office brings on extra workers and hires trucks to handle the mail volume. This load of mail turning onto Queen Street is outbound.

“He knows if you’ve been bad or good,” Jean Ariyoshi might be telling these youngsters at Washington Place. A group of 60 boys and girls, ages 5 and 6, were guests of the state’s first lady at her annual Christmas party for underprivileged children. The children were selected by the Honolulu Community Action Program and drawn from various Oahu communities.
