The Honolulu Zoo held an evening art event where hundreds of children participated. The event was the finale of summer entertainment that ranged from operatic arias to a jug band. David Spielvogel found inspiration from an elephant at the zoo.

STARADVERTISER / APRIL 12, 1982

A faulty design by a Young Street company has been blamed for concrete flaking that prompted a halt in construction of the Kapiolani Boulevard onramp to the H-1 freeway. The $4.8 million project was stopped in December after cracks were noticed in the concrete girders.

It’s all in the family for James Miyashiro, 28 months, and his sister, Michele May, 4, as they shine up their Baby Hawaii trophies. James won the title at the Honolulu Jaycees State Fair this weekend. Michele May was a winner in 1964. They are the children of James T. Miyashiro and his wife of 2723 Liliha St.
