UPDATE 10 p.m.
A suspect is in custody following the hourslong barricade situation at the Kapahulu Avenue apartment.
At around 9:30 p.m. police could be seen at the door of the unit, where they announced that they were entering the building. A suspect could be seen leaving the building with police.
HPD has reopened Kapahulu Avenue and Kanaina Avenue.
6 p.m.
Honolulu police are responding to a barricade situation at the apartment building at 465 Kapahulu Ave.
Officers with the Honolulu Police Department’s Specialized Services Division are at the scene of that reportedly involves an armed person on the fifth floor of the building.
The barricade situation started at around 1:45 p.m., resulting in an evacuation of the building.
Residents of the building said they heard yelling and arguing at the scene prior to the arrival of police, although no gunshots have been reported.
The unit’s occupants are known to have loud arguments and police have been at the unit before.

Honolulu police closed Kapahulu Avenue in both directions between Date Street and Ala Wai Boulevard this afternoon due to a reported barricade situation.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
HPD officers were dispatched to the 400-block of Kapahulu Avenue in Kaimuki at 1:23 p.m.
Peter Dela Cruz, 76, a resident and business owner at 465 Kapahulu Ave., said HPD evacuated the five-story building due to a possible explosive on the property, which is near the intersection of Kainaina Avenue.
