A downed traffic light pole forced the closure this morning of all eastbound lanes of Kapiolani Boulevard at Ward Avenue.
UPDATE: 2:13 p.m.
The eastbound lanes of Kapiolani Boulevard at the intersection of Ward Avenue reopened sometime before noon after crews replaced the damaged traffic pole with a temporary pole.
Travis Ota, spokesman of the Honolulu Department of Transportation Services, said strong winds coupled with pole erosion caused the pole to topple. “The failure point was where the pole is attached (welded) to the steel plate,” Ota said today.
The city is working to get a new permanent traffic pole soon.

A downed light pole has forced the closure of the Tripler offramp from the Moanalua Freeway onto Puuloa Road.

Road crews are on the scene, but there is no estimated time for reopening, according to Honolulu police.
