A motorist stopped at Kinau Street looks at the just-opened Keeaumoku Street overpass spanning Lunalilo Freeway. Ewa-bound traffic from the freeway will flow under the overpass onto Lunalilo Street; an offramp leads to Keeaumoku Street. Kaimuki-bound traffic will take Kinau Street to Makiki Street, which leads to the freeway.

A group of island entertainers called the Cavalcade of the Hawaiian Islands arrived in San Francisco aboard the liner General M.C. Meigs to begin a tour of the mainland. The group includes Keale Dong, left, Harriet Ah Quin and Lani Kaio, who rehearsed along with other members of the show.

Chief boatswain’s mate Eugene R. Levacy challenges pooch Tangoroa to a game of checkers aboard the Pacific Fleet Service Force oiler Kawishiwi. Tangoroa arrived in Hawaii with DeVere Baker aboard Baker’s Lehi IV raft but ran into quarantine difficulties, leading him to join the Navy and become the Kawishiwi’s mascot.

Entrepreneur Arthur J. de Robles, pressing sugar cane to produce juice, says that while growing up in Cuba, drinking sugar cane juice was as normal as drinking soda pop. De Robles and a partner have purchased several juice presses and hope to market the drink to local hotel bars and other outlets.
