Moped rider in critical condition following collision in Makiki
Honolulu police said a 20-year-old woman riding a moped is in critical condition after she was struck by a car in Makiki on Wednesday night.
The Honolulu Police Department said at about 7:45 p.m., the driver of the car, a 31-year-old woman, was traveling eastbound on Wilder Avenue and attempting to turn onto Makiki Street while in the intersection when she collided with the moped rider, who was traveling westbound.
The moped rider was ejected onto the roadway and suffered multiple injuries.
Honolulu EMS administered advanced life support to the moped rider and transported her to a trauma hospital in critical condition. The woman’s identity was not immediately released.
Police said the moped rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. The driver of the car was not injured.
HPD on Wednesday night closed the westbound lanes of Wilder Avenue at Makiki Street during the investigation, which remains ongoing. The roads have since reopened.

Police said speed, drugs, and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors at this time.
