STAR-ADVERTISER ARCHIVE / JULY 18, 1986
With cymbals clanging and reflections of colorful lanterns dancing on the waters of Honolulu Harbor, the
fishing boat Likelike briefly went out to sea with a cargo of Buddhist icons as part of obon services by
Jodo Mission of Hawaii. The traditional way to dispose of religious items that belonged to Buddhists who
have died in the past year is to bury them at sea.
