Board of Water Supply crews have completed repairs to Kamehameha Highway by Kahana Bay Beach Park, re-opening one lane of traffic for contra-flowed traffic on Oahu’s North Shore.

The lane was opened at about 4:30 a.m. today and BWS officials say repair work continues on the 30-inch main that broke last weekend, causing the road damage and traffic mess.

Officials said water conservation is still needed from Waimanalo to Kaaawa since the system lost about 60% of the water supply after the break.

“Use water for cooking and personal hygiene only,” officials said early this morning. “Please do not use water for any lawn or garden irrigation, car washing, or other outdoor use such as filling swimming pools or water slides. These conservation measures help us maintain some level of water in the reservoirs serving these areas and provide service to all customers. We continue to monitor the system and will provide updates as needed.”

The lane re-opening on Kamehameha Highway near Kahana Bay, TheBus routes 60 and 88A are expected to operate normally through the area, however, delays are expected due to the contra-flow operations in place, they said. The bus shuttle service during the full closure has been discontinued.

BWS crews have also set up a bypass to restore water service to the families on Trout Farm Road and along the highway.
