The “Golden Spirit,” built by Zimmer Motor Car Corp. of Pompano Beach, Fla., is one of several specialty cars on display at the First Hawaiian Auto Show at Blaisdell Center. The Golden Spirit has a V-8, 255- cubic-inch engine built by Ford Motor Co. The price tag: $60,000.

The Honolulu Community Chest’s 1954 campaign kicked off with the lighting of a huge “red feather” torch in front of King Kamehameha’s statue in downtown Honolulu. The torch, a symbol of the community’s generosity, will burn for two weeks. Pauline King, daughter of Gov. Samuel Wilder King, and chest manager Reginald W. Carter lit the torch during the ceremony.
