Recent changes in the Kilauea summit eruption have seen the crusting-over of the lava pond near the western end of the Halemaumau Crater floor. This view of the lava pond vicinity was captured through the lens of a laser rangefinder on April 6, from the western rim of the crater.3/8

Eruptive activity continues within Halemaumau Crater at the summit of Kilauea on April 15. Since the beginning of this eruption on Sept. 29, 2021, the crater floor has seen a total rise of about 325 feet. The volume of lava effused since the beginning of this eruption was approximately 18 billion gallons as measured on April 6, according to USGS.4/8
