Man found dead after Windward barricade situation that closed Kamehameha Highway for hours

UPDATE 9 p.m.:

A 47-year-old man was found dead with a gunshot wound apparently after he barricaded himself inside a home near Kahana Bay.

The incident involving a Honolulu Police Department SWAT team shut down a section of Kamehameha Highway for several hours between Keneke’s and Kahana Bay this afternoon, causing traffic to backup for miles.

The highway was reopened after 6 p.m.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services first responded around 12:30 p.m. to a 60-year-old woman who was assaulted with a weapon and suffered a broken arm. She was treated and taken to an emergency room, according to EMS spokeswoman Shayne Enright.

EMS crews returned a couple of hours later for a 76-year-old who didn’t have any injuries but was evaluated and transported to a hospital, she said.

EMS crews also assisted with the death pronouncement of the man, who sustained a gunshot wound.

Police had no further details.
