Hawaiian Electric restores power to about 3,000 in Ewa Beach
About 2,900 Hawaiian Electric Co. customers in Ewa Beach had their power restored at 2:50 p.m., after losing power at 7:30 a.m. today.
Hawaiian Electric crews had to repair damage to underground equipment from a flashover, which is an abnormal electrical discharge that causes a flash. Such damage is more challenging, complex and time-consuming to repair than overhead equipment, the utility company said.
An early estimate said it could take 12 1/2 hours to restore electricity to the area.
The cause is being investigated.
