Honolulu police arrest suspect in early-morning fatal shooting in Nanakuli
Honolulu police arrested a 42-year-old man in connection with the deadly shooting of a 37-year-old man in Nanakuli early this morning.
Honolulu police and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to a report of a shooting at Kaukai Road near the intersection of Hakimo Road just after 2:15 a.m.
Homicide Lt. Deena Thoemmes said the suspect and the victim were arguing when the suspect shot the man and fled before officers arrived.
According to police, the victim suffered a gunshot wound to his upper body.
EMS treated him and took him in critical condition to the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center where he later died.
The victim’s name has yet to be released by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office.

Officers cordoned the driveway entrance to a property on the makai side of Kaukai Road with yellow tape as detectives investigated. Two heaps of large tires were in front of the property.
A neighbor reported hearing a loud noise at the time of the shooting and initially thought it was a firework. Soon after, the resident saw a person wearing a camouflage jacket and backpack run mauka on Hakimo Road.
Police located the suspect and arrested him shortly after 4:30 a.m. on suspicion of second-degree murder.
Thoemmes noted the suspect and victim knew each another. Detectives are continuing their investigation.
