2 vehicle crash in Maili sends 2 to hospital in serious condition
The Honolulu Fire Department and Honolulu Emergency Medical Services responded to a two-vehicle crash on Saturday night that sent two people to a local trauma facility.
HFD said four units with approximately 14 personnel repsonded to a 911 call at 10:08 p.m. and arrived at the intersection of Farringon Highway and Hila Street in Maili five minutes later to find one of the two vehicles involved had also struck a nearby telephone pole.
After setting up a command post, firefighters learned a male in his early 50s had already been extricated from a pickup truck before they arrived. EMS crews on scene assumed care of the man and transported him to the hospital.
A passenger in the pickup, whom HFD said was a man in his late 50s and had one leg pinned by the truck’s door, had to be freed by firefighters using hydraulic rescue tools before paramedics transported him to the hospital as well.
EMS said both men were transported in serious condition.
HFD and EMS said all occupants of the other vehicle involved in the incident refused treatment at the scene.
