Keep an eye out for the Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine-inspired Munchie Machine

Growing up with Saturday morning cartoons, it’s easy for kids to get caught up in the exploits of characters like Scooby-Doo, his bestie Shaggy and the rest of the Mystery Inc. gang.

In addition to unmasking the masterminds of conspiracies, Scooby and Shaggy eat a copious amount of treats. That nostalgia prompted Michanne Barroga to launch The Munchie Machine food truck.

“My brother and I would always talk about ideas,” Barroga states. “I said we should do a food truck and design it like the Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine, but call it The Munchie Machine and have munchie food.”

The next thing Barroga knew, her brother had purchased a truck, and the duo started developing the menu.

“I knew I wanted burgers and fries, and, my brother, having a culinary background, knew exactly what flavors work together,” Barroga adds.

The Munchie Machine serves up a Hawaii twist on American favorites: burgers, fries and grilled cheese sandwiches. Its burgers are all homemade, slathered with its proprietary homemade Sticky Icky Teri and DAB sauces, and topped with cheese with toasted buns. Choose from the single-patty Scrappy ($5), double-patty Scooby ($7) and more. Other offerings include the Crunchie Munchie ($4) — Barroga’s twist on a grilled cheese sandwich — made with Dooby fries, DAB sauce and served on toasted buns; the Shaggy ($12), which is two Crunchie Munchies that act as the buns for a Scooby; and the newest sandwich, the Shaggy Jr. ($6). Also, choose from three types of fries: the classic Dooby fries ($4), waffle fries ($4) and teri fries ($5). While the menu is straightforward, the flavors will have you saying, “Scooby-Dooby-Doo!”

Find The Munchie Machine in Mapunapuna and Salt Lake 10:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday. Follow the biz on Instagram (@the.munchie. machine), where Barroga posts the truck’s times and locations daily. Customers can take advantage of street parking at either location.
