The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the 39-year-old pedestrian who died after a sedan struck her in Nanakuli Monday as Candace A.L. Lopes of Waianae.

The collision occurred on Farrington Highway fronting the Garden Groves townhouse complex just after 5 a.m.

Honolulu police said a gray 2002 Honda Civic sedan operated by a 25-year-old man was traveling westbound on the highway when it struck the pedestrian, identified as Lopes.

Capt. James Slayter of the HPD’s Traffic Division said the pedestrian stepped out from behind a city bus and attempted to cross the highway when she was struck.

Lopes was not in a marked crosswalk at the time.

She was taken in critical condition to the Waianae Comprehensive Health Center where she later died.

The Honda driver did not sustain any injuries.

Speed, alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in the collision.
