The Hawaii State Public Library System reopened Wahiawa Public Library after a temporary one-day closure Wednesday following the positive test result of an employee.

The employee received their positive test result on Tuesday, officials said, and the library was closed out of an abundance of caution. It reopened today after undergoing a thorough cleaning.

HSPLS said all public library staff are required to wear masks, and practice social distancing and hand-sanitizing guidelines. In addition, high-touch areas are disinfected as recommended under federal and state guidance.

Face masks are also required while inside public libraries, and limited capacity is monitored.

“Since reopening public services in May 2020, all of our public library employees have worked hard to protect themselves, their co-workers and their communities from exposure to this terrible virus,” said State Librarian Stacey Aldrich in a news release. “Nevertheless, this is an important reminder for all of us to remain vigilant by wearing masks, social distancing and following recommended safety protocols such as getting vaccinated, to protect our families, our co-workers and our community.”

HSPLS also offers an array of digital offerings, including ebooks, at librarieshawaii.org.
