Pedestrian, 82, dies after she is struck by car in Kalihi

An 82-year-old pedestrian died after a car struck her in Kalihi Tuesday, police said.

Positive identification is pending.

The collision occurred at the intersection of North King and Umi streets around 12:05 p.m.

Police said a white 2015 Chevrolet Camaro operated by a 50-year-old woman was traveling on North King Street and approaching the Umi Street intersection when the vehicle collided with a woman who was within a marked crosswalk.

Initial reports indicated the pedestrian only sustained abrasions in the collision and was taken as a precautionary measure to a hospital in good/stable condition. Police said her condition deteriorated and she died at the hospital.

An autopsy is scheduled to be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

The Chevrolet driver did not sustain any injuries.

Police said speed was not a factor. It’s unknown at this time whether alcohol or drugs were involved.

This is the 26th traffic-related fatality on Oahu compared to 22 at the same time last year.

An investigation is ongoing.
