Police take man into custody following barricade situation at Waikiki apartment
UPDATE: 3:50 p.m.
Honolulu police took a man to a medical facility for an evaluation today after he barricaded himself in an apartment at a residential building in Waikiki, according to a police spokeswoman.
Police responded to a call of a distraught, armed man at an apartment at the Royal Aloha building, 1909 Ala Wail Boulevard shortly after 7:30 a.m.
Police spokeswoman Michelle Yu said officers shut down a section of McCully Street at the Ala Wai Boulevard intersection for approximately three hours while negotiators spoke with the man.
At the scene, officers of the Specialized Services Division were observed releasing a stun grenade or “flashbang” into the apartment at 12:25 p.m.
Police took the man into custody shortly after.

A man is in custody, ending a barricade at a residential building in Waikiki.
Police took the man from the building into custody sometime before 12:50 p.m.
All affected lanes on McCully Street are now open.

Honolulu police are responding to a barricade situation involving a male at a residential building in Waikiki today.
Area residents say police arrived at the building at 1909 Ala Wai Boulevard sometime around or after 8 a.m. Soon thereafter, officers of the Specialized Services Division arrived.
Police are currently attempting to communicate with the male inside one of the units.
Three lanes of McCully Street heading into Waikiki between Ala Wai Boulevard and Kalakaua Avenue have been closed due to the situation.
Motorists are advised to expect delays in the area.
