Malama Kaua‘i is offering locally-sourced holiday gift bags at discounted prices to support 22 small local businesses and raise funds for the food hub Moloa‘a ‘Aina Center.
Gift bags can be ordered from the nonprofit through Friday. Three choices, from $50 to $200, include items sourced from 211 farms, ranchers and fishers across the island (the Lokahi Keep It Local bag at left is $200).
Products include Moloa‘a Bay Coffee, Uncle Mikey’s Hawaiian Dried Fruit Medley, Aloha Spice Co. Coffee Rub & Seasoning and a variety of other treats.
Malama Kaua‘i is working with the 70-member Moloa‘a Irrigation Cooperative, which in 2016 received a grant from the state to purchase land to build a facility to clean, store and process foods grown in the area.
The new food hub has a commercial kitchen, office and a small packing area, with further improvements planned.
Order a gift bag through malamakauai.store. The site also offers $25 produce bags that may be purchased to give to needy families.
