Hilo woman, 38, arrested after striking police vehicle with her car
Hawaii island police arrested a 38-year-old Hilo woman early this morning, accusing her of assaulting a police officer and committing other property, drug and traffic-related crimes.
Shortly before 4 a.m. Puna patrol officers responded to a report of suspicious activity involving several people and vehicles on South Enos Road, police said.
When officers approached one of the cars to investigate, they found one woman had an outstanding no-bail warrant pending.
Officers told the woman she was under arrest and asked her to get out of her car. Instead, she slammed on the gas and struck a police vehicle, then reversed to the edge of the roadway, where her car became stuck, police said.
The woman was taken into custody, and her vehicle was towed to the Hilo Police Station. South Enos Road was closed for several hours during the investigation.
She remained in custody this morning, police said.
