A million dazzling lights choreographed to Christmas music will be on display in a drive-through attraction billed as “Show Aloha Land — A Holiday Wonderland from First Hawaiian Bank,” beginning Friday at the Aloha Stadium.
The 37-day event is a fundraiser for the Show Aloha Challenge Foundation, a nonprofit that delivered 200,000 hot meals to kupuna statewide this year and distributed more than 2 million pounds of food to families impacted by the pandemic. The admission fee is $50 per vehicle, and reservations should be made for 30-minute time slots beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Families will drive through two 150-foot-long tunnels for a show made with a million LED lights, a news release said. Displays include a 50-foot-tall Christmas tree and Santa riding his sleigh 80 feet in the air.
After viewing the light show, families may purchase sophisticated dishes with local flair from $10 to $12, created by award-winning chef Clifford Manansala of 53 by the Sea.
“The entrees will not be typical plate lunch fare,” Manansala said in a statement. “We’ll be cooking on-site at Aloha Stadium so everything will be hot and fresh.”
On the menu are: roasted lemongrass pork belly; miso yuzu poke; grilled marinated steak with a smoked negi chimichurri; aburi (flame-seared) salmon; and fried chicken adobo.
Meals will be brought to the cars, which will be directed to park in a checkerboard pattern to avoid close contact with other vehicles in the lower parking lot of the stadium. Families may continue enjoying the light show while eating.
Videos of the light displays can be previewed at showalohachallenge.com. Reserve tickets by selecting a date and time of admission on the website; a show will start every half hour. The number of vehicles for each time slot will be limited.
Ticket holders also will have a chance to win one of two vehicles: a Ford Explorer and a Ford F-150 Crew Cab, which will be awarded after the event ends on Jan. 2.
