Gov. David Ige rejoined the COVID-19 Care Conversation today to take questions about the fight against COVID-19 in Hawaii.

Ige said he will unveil the state’s recovery plan at a news conference this afternoon. The plan indicates the administration’s method for reopening Hawaii’s economy in four phases, with each phase assigned to a color – green, yellow, orange, and red. Details have yet to be announced, but the governor said the plan will be circulated extensively following its unveiling today.

When asked about inter-island travel, the governor said he will be meeting with the county mayors today and that residents can expect an announcement later this week. He reiterated that the 14-day mandatory quarantine for domestic and international travel will not be lifted anytime soon. He cautioned those who are looking to visit Hawaii in the summer months and beyond, saying they should ensure their travel is refundable.

Ige also shared that incoming visitors are required to have a confirmed accommodation reservation for the duration of the quarantine. If their duration of stay is less than the mandatory 14-day quarantine period, visitors must also show they have a confirmed departure flight.

Ige said that he intends to extend the safer-at-home mandate through June, but that the next phase will be called “act with care.” This next phase would allow more social interactions while maintaining social distancing. He reconfirmed that gatherings should only be with those in your household and that gatherings of 10 or more are not allowed.

The news conference will take place at 2:30 p.m today.
