Jacaranda trees are seen along Haleakala Highway on Sunday in Maui. A native species of South America, they grow up to 60 feet tall. Most of the trees were brought to Upcountry Maui in the late 1930s and 1940s by territorial highway engineers to be planted along Kula's roadways.
