VIDEO: Ige says restrictions likely to be eased further in coming weeks
Gov. David Ige said this morning that he’s getting set to reopen a select number of state parks and will likely announce more easing of restrictions over the month of May if COVID-19 epidemic conditions continue to look good.
Ige, speaking on the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s COVID-19 Care Conversation Facebook show, said he may have a list of state parks to reopen as early as this afternoon. He said the list will include only those parks big enough to allow exercise with proper social distancing.
Ige also said he may allow interisland travel without a 14-day quarantine to restart this month. He said many details still need to be worked out but he is considering a phased-approach with travel to only two islands at the start.
He said he is talking to the airlines to determine what’s realistic from their perspectives. Opening interisland travel may also require coordination with hotels, he said.
Domestic and international travel quarantines would continue after the interisland quarantine is lifted, he said
The governor said he’s looking at a variety of other business sectors for reopening as long as they can do it while keeping both employees and customers safe.
