Honolulu police investigate a traffic incident involving a pedestrian in the Safeway parking lot at Hawaii Kai Shopping Center this morning.

A 71-year-old woman was in serious condition Sunday after she was struck by her husband while helping him reverse out of a stall at Hawaii Kai Shopping Center.

Police said the husband, 80, was reversing a Mercedes SUV out of the stall about 9:45 a.m. while his wife stood directly behind the SUV. The driver accelerated and struck a parked vehicle before continuing and striking his wife, police said. The driver continued on and hit a second parked vehicle before coming to a final stop.

The driver was not injured in the crash at the Safeway parking lot. His wife was taken to a hospital in serious condition with possible head and leg injuries, police said.
