Among the famous aviation pioneers who met at a banquet at Honolulu last night were Robert Bryant, left, world record holder for nonstop light plane flight; Martin Jensen, who was second in the famous Dole Air Race of 1927; Steve Wittman, dean of American racing pilots; Blanche Noyes, dean of American female pilots; Charles Willard, 93, oldest living American pilot; Danny Grecco, “Mr. Aviation”; Viola Gentry, women’s solo endurance record holder; and Tiny Broadwick, 82, the fi rst female parachutist.

STARADVERTISER / MARCH 6, 1966

Arcadia, a retirement residence in Makiki, was developed by Central Union Church at a cost of $7.4 million. The 12-story, 270-unit building was ready for occupancy in November 1966 and will house citizens over 61 years old. It includes a 22-bed infirmary with examination and treatment facilities.

Kaneohe-bound cars passed through the Wilson Tunnel as the new route went into use. An estimated 500 vehicles used the tunnel during the first two hours it was opened in the Kaneohe-bound direction.
