The overhead section of the H-1 freeway at Waialae will carry traffic over the top of Waialae Avenue, which is lined with a shopping center, markets, service stations, restaurants and other businesses. Nancy Chory, left, Patricia Ann Thomas and Phillis Gray became privates first class in the Army Reserve after being sworn into the Army Nurse Corps educational program. They were among 135 selected from 900 nationwide applicants.
