APPLE PENCIL
Supplies:
>> 5-inch-square piece cardstock for pattern making
>> 5-inch-square piece red cardstock for apple
>> 4-inch-square piece white cardstock for the inside of apple
>> Regular Pencil
>> 1/4-inch piece double- stick tape
>> 3-inch-square piece green cardstock for leaves
>> 8-inch piece twine or ribbon
>> Green chenille stem for worm body
>> 1-inch green pom pom for worm head
>> 2 7-mm moving eyes
Tools:
>> Pencil for tracing
>> Scissors
>> Black fine-point Sharpie marker
>> 1/4-inch hole punch
>> Tacky glue, or low-temperature glue gun and glue sticks
Instructions:
1. To make pattern, fold the 5-inch cardstock in half and draw a half heart on the fold. Cut out a large heart.
2. Trace a smaller heart on the inside of the large heart and cut out. These are your two patterns for the apple.
3. Fold red cardstock in half and trace the outside of the larger heart. Cut out.
4. With red heart still folded in half, make two 1/4-inch snips at the center fold, about 1/2-inch apart.
5. Trace smaller heart pattern onto white cardstock and cut out.
6. Use black marker to draw “seeds.” Write a message as well if you want.
7. Slide the pencil through the slits on the red heart.
8. Use double-stick tape to stick the small white heart onto the red heart.
9. Cut two leaves from green cardstock.
10. Punch a hole on one end of each leaf. Use marker to write a message on the leaves, if you want. String leaves onto twine.
11. Tie leaves to pencil above the apple.
12. For a finishing touch, make a worm: Glue green pom pom to one end of the chenille stem. Glue on eyes. Wrap stem around pencil.
