There’s something special about baking, and even more so when baking with loved ones. Children and their grandparents can learn the basics of baking at Keiki & Kupuna in the Kitchen: Baking Quick Breads, a community class June 22 at Windward Community College.
Students will learn the importance of key ingredients in baking and make coffee cake, biscuits and scones. They will also be able to take their creations home to share with family.
“Some of my fondest childhood memories are of baking with my grandmother and making her traditional favorites, like divinity and peppermint patties,” said class instructor Daniel Swift, who’s also the workforce development coordinator at Windward Community College.
The goal of the class is to provide an opportunity for families to create new traditions while learning something together, Swift said.
“All families have some form of ritual centered around food, but not always around baking,” Swift said. “Quick breads and other basic but delicious baked goods need not be intimidating. They can be fast, easy, fun and delicious.”
