More than 20 Army AH-64 Apache helicopters will take to the sky for a formation flight around Oahu on Wednesday.
The 25th Infantry Division’s 2nd Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment is flying to commemorate the 158th anniversary of the regiment’s activation, the Army said.
The regiment was activated May 3, 1861, in Pittsburgh, Pa.
“In addition to the anniversary commemoration, this is also the first time the entire squadron has been together on Oahu in more than a year due to missions across the Pacific region,” according to the Army.
The formation flight will occur between approximately 8:30 and 10 a.m. with helicopters using approved air corridors around the coast of Oahu.
The commemorative flight will depart Wheeler Army Airfield and fly counterclockwise around the island once, passing over Schofield Barracks before returning to Wheeler.
The 25th Combat Aviation Brigade has coordinated the flight with local air traffic control towers, the Army said. Community members may experience increased noise during the commemoration.
