Did you watch “Game of Thrones” on Sunday? Are you hooked for the season? Here are a couple of ways to eat and drink your way to the finish line of the HBO fantasy series.
>> Nabisco has released limited-edition Oreo cookies imprinted with the sigils of House Targaryen (dragons), Lannister (lion) and Stark (direwolf) plus an image of the Night King. They taste like regular Oreos, but shiny black packaging makes them stand out among all the other Oreo flavors. That said, the Oreos have become scarce.
Last week we found them easily at Foodland and Target, but stocks have run low, and a spokeswoman for Oreo says there will be no more. Find them on amazon or ebay, or for kicks watch a video that the Oreo folks made, of the show’s opening sequence animated in Oreos.
>> Much easier to find is the Game of Thrones wine line — chardonnay, pinot noir and a red blend — sold in many liquor shops, Foodland stores and some Safeway locations. The wines are by California winemaker (and “Thrones” superfan) Bob Cabral, who was Wine Enthusiast magazine’s winemaker of the year in 2011. A bottle sells for about $23. — Betty Shimabukuro, Star-Advertiser
A COCKTAIL FOR EASTER AND BEYOND
The What’s Up Doc is a bright, alluring drink made with carrot juice, which anchors it to the Easter holiday. The cocktail is on the menu at David Burke Tavern in Manhattan.
To make two of the drinks at home: Combine 4 ounces of chilled vodka and 1-1/2 ounces carrot juice, an ounce of lime juice and a half-ounce of simple syrup in a shaker.
Shake and strain into two ice-filled rocks glasses, and top each with a couple of ounces of ginger beer. Garnish with a baby carrot with a jaunty green top.
