Hawaii’s first ax throwing venue opened two weeks ago, and some competition already appears close behind.
Axe Throwing Hawaii is aiming to open in Kapolei this summer in a Kenai Industrial Park warehouse between Kalaeloa Harbor and Campbell Industrial Park.
The business applied for a building permit on Wednesday and already has a website up and running.
The locally owned company formed in February is managed by Brandon and Joy Morris, according to state business registration records.
Axe Throwing Hawaii’s plans follow the opening two weeks ago of Blade &Timber Axe Throwing in
Kakaako.
Missouri-based Blade &Timber opened its first location in Kansas City, Mo., two years ago.
Throwing axes at targets in indoor lanes is often credited as having started in Canada with the Backyard Axe Throwing League, which moved from backyard gatherings in the late 2000s to a warehouse in 2011. BATL now has 10 locations in Canada and five in the United States. Many other companies have gotten into the game in recent years on the mainland and in cities around the world.
