Oahu’s North Shore is expected to be hit with monster waves of 40 to 50 feet today and into Monday, with the big stuff rolling
in today.
West-facing shores of Oahu are forecast to see waves of 25 to 35 feet.
“It’ll rise through the day,” said Jeff Powell, senior meteorologist at the National Weather Service. “It won’t rise suddenly but we should see giant levels by Sunday night.”
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources said it plans to close the Keawaula and Mokuleia sections of Kaena Point State Park beginning this morning because of the expected high surf and the risk of coastal flooding.
Officials on Kauai warned people not to swim at any north- and west-facing beaches from Kekaha to Anahola today and warned spectators it could be dangerous just to stand along the shoreline.
The National Weather Service warned of life-threatening surf, significant beach erosion and coastal inundation late today into Monday, especially just after midnight.
After dropping Tuesday, another northwest swell is expected to kick up more high surf late Wednesday through Thursday.
