The city held an inaugural King Kamehameha III (Kauikeaouli) Statue lei draping birthday celebration at Thomas Square on Friday morning. The tribute to the third king of the Kingdom of Hawai'i featured music by the Royal Hawaiian Band, speeches by dignitaries, a blessing, hula and the presentation of hoʻokupu, or offering, of lei upon the statue which was dedicated last July. Pictured are members of the Honolulu Fire Department Honor Guard placing the lei upon the statue which was dedicated in July 2018. Kamehameha III established the Honolulu Fire Department on December 27, 1850.
