Free admission to Bishop Museum, music by Weldon Kekauoha and Josh Tatofi and lots of local grinds are among the highlights at the Hawaiian Civic Club of Honolulu Ho‘olaule‘a Centennial Celebration March 23 at the museum.

“In celebration of 100 years since the founding of the first Hawaiian civic club started by Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole, the community is invited to venture through the halls of Bishop Museum to explore the collection of artifacts honoring Hawaiians’ heritage and culture, and enjoy music from some of Hawaii’s top artists,” said event manager J. Kuhio Lewis, who is also president and CEO of the Council of Native Hawaiian Advancement.

Hosted by the civic club, which was founded in December 1918, the festivities include entertainment by Royal Hawaiian Band and Ku‘uipo Kumukahi, hula performances, demonstrations by Hawaiian cultural practitioners, Hawaiian games and a native Hawaiian marketplace.

There will also be free health screenings, informational booths and exhibits from Native Hawaiian organizations and local businesses, and as part of the centennial celebration, a showcase of civic club accomplishments in education, culture, health and more.
