Honolulu police today captured a suspected vehicle thief who ran toward the UH-Manoa campus from Manoa Valley.

Honolulu police arrested a suspected vehicle thief this morning in front of the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s law school library.

Police records show that the 27-year-old suspect threatened a 55-year-old man while taking his vehicle.

The suspect was believed to have abandoned the vehicle near the College Hill home of UH President David Lassner before he ran toward Lower Campus and was arrested on Dole Street around 7:40 a.m.

“There is no threat to campus; man was not armed,” according to an alert sent by UH’s Department of Public Safety. “… Police believe the vehicle was found near College Hill and suspect ran towards campus before being apprehended by Honolulu Police.”

The same suspect allegedly robbed two men in the University area earlier today, according to police records.

Police said the suspect confronted a 32-year-old man at about 6:50 a.m., allegedly demanded his property and assaulted him. He then allegedly did the same to a 43-year-old man.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of three counts of second-degree robbery and one count of auto theft.
