Hawaii island firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire that occurred at a residence in Keaau early today.

Eleven firefighters responded to the fire at a home in the Eden Rock subdivision at approximately 1:10 a.m. When they arrived, they observed an 800-square-foot structure engulfed in flames, said the Hawaii County Fire Department in a news release.

The residence was unoccupied at the time.

Firefighters brought the fire under control just at about 1:45 a.m. and extinguished just after 3:25 a.m.

Damage to the home is estimated at $120,000.
