Maui police warns of phone scammer impersonating as an officer
The Maui Police Department today warned the public about a phone scam involving a caller who claims to be a police officer.
The male caller informs the recipient that there’s an outstanding warrant, which must be paid at the sheriff’s office. The scammer will also ask the recipient to seek reimbursement from Maui County. The scammer calls from an 808 area code and speaks with a drawl.
MPD reminds the public they will never call about outstanding warrants or ask for payments. Avoid giving out any personal information, hang up and notify the Maui police at 808-244-6400.
