Here’s less-than-super news for fans of Netflix’s “Daredevil.”

The TV series centering on Marvel’s crime-fighting superhero will not be brought back for a fourth season, Netflix announced.

“We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note,” reads a statement from the streaming service.

The cancellation comes one month after the premiere of the third season. Netflix also thanked Marvel, as well as the show’s fans, cast and crew and Season 3 showrunner, for their support and contributions to the series.

“While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel,” Netflix said.

Many fans were disappointed by the cancellation, including one with the Twitter handle mattsmirkdock who seemed caught off guard by the news.

“I like actually don’t know what to say about the daredevil cancellation I’m so upset,” he tweeted.

Another user, arolacroix, shared a similar sentiment, writing, “I’m so genuinely sad about daredevil I can’t believe this.”

Amy Rutberg, an actress who played Marci on the show, acknowledged that the news left her shook up as well.

“Heartbroken and surprised. But what a helluva way to go out!” she tweeted, before tagging two of the people who served as showrunners for the series. “Thank you stevendeknight and erikoleson. I will miss Marci terribly but so proud to have played in your world.”

The series, which premiered in 2015, starred Charlie Cox as Daredevil, a blind attorney in New York City who suited up at night as a vigilante in Hell’s Kitchen. Other stars of “Daredevil” included Deborah Ann Woll, Rosario Dawson and Elden Henson.

Netflix last month announced the cancellation of a pair of other Marvel series, “Luke Cage” and “Iron First,” after two seasons each.

Those shows, along with “Daredevil,” served as three of the four series that led to Netflix’s “The Defenders” series about a Marvel crime-fighting alliance. Of the four, only “Jessica Jones” remains now.

“Daredevil” was the first of those series. The Daredevil character was created by Stan Lee and artist Bill Everett and made his comic-book debut in 1964.

Ben Affleck previously portrayed the character in a 2003 film adaptation centering on the hero.
