Another fast-casual restaurant chain where customers design their own pizzas is coming to Hawaii.
The Pizza Press announced Tuesday it plans to open a store at Pearl Highlands Center next month.
The California-based chain was established in 2012 and has about 30 restaurants in seven states.
Several build-your-own pizza chains have expanded across the country in recent years, and Pieology is one with a significant foothold in Hawaii. Other competitors in the state include the locally grown Sophie’s Gourmet Hawaiian Pizzeria with one restaurant in Hawaii Kai.
Pizza Press describes itself as a 1920s newspaper-themed restaurant. Signature pies are named after major newspapers, employees wear newsboy caps and customers “publish” their own pizzas.

Bank of Hawaii has announced the hiring of Sharene Urakami-Oyama as vice president and private banking relationship manager of its Private Banking Department on Oahu. Her experience includes 19 years with AT&T in Honolulu, also serving on the Broadband Assistant Advisory Council for Hawaii, and six years with Bank of America in Honolulu.
Pacific Current, a subsidiary of Hawaiian Electric Industries, has appointed Scott Valentino as its new president. He previously served as vice president of finance at AltaGas, a Canadian diversified energy infrastructure company. Valentino also served 10 years in financial and strategic as well as business development roles at NRG, a leading power industry company.
